Mark Reeves.050The TRIZ world has lost a champion—Mark Reeves

A short while ago, we lost Mark Reeves. He passed away after a short, but valiant battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease in his early 70’s. Not many people in the TRIZ community knew Mark, but I got to know him well as we both received our “basic training” in the same class from TRIZ Masters Boris Zlotin and Alla Zusman. He retired from 3M as one of its most prolific inventors, including a training system used for US athletes in the winter Olympics. His basement in his house in the Minneapolis, MN area was a hot bed of innovation and he continued to make a unique tape testing machine for 3M in his basement. He was always my partner in doing TRIZ workshops that were focused on his expertise areas of mechanical engineering and physics and we did several joint workshops and training for corporate clients over the past 20 years. There was no one else in the TRIZ community that could stimulate “out of the box” thinking as Mark could.

His business practice was focused in the Minneapolis area with clients such as 3M, General Mills, and Target. He decided to focus his TRIZ energy in intellectual property and obtained his patent agent license in Minnesota and assisted clients in expanding patent coverage and circumventing patents using both TRIZ software tools and Su-Field modeling. There was never a patent he couldn’t find a way around! He did this type of work long before it became a “hot” topic in the TRIZ community.

Though he is no longer with us, the impact of his TRIZ work will survive with the people and companies he worked with.

We’ll miss you, Mark!

In memory of Dr. James “Jim” Bradley, who passed on August 10, 2022

by Richard Langevin | August 17, 2022 james bradley

With great sadness, the TRIZ Community has lost another TRIZ Master, Dr. Jim Bradley.

Jim passed away on August 10, 2022, after battling cancer for several years. He leaves his wife, Sue, whom he loves very much.

Jim retired from International Truck after almost ten years of service as “the go-to guy” for solving complex problems.

Jim had a long and productive career as a mechanical engineer. One of his most outstanding achievements was receiving his TRIZ Master’s certification. In 2012, Jim earned TRIZ Master #84 under the MATRIZ certification system.

He was, first and foremost, a friend, an extraordinary person who made many friends in the TRIZ community. In his last months, Jim would email his friends wishing us a safe and wonderful weekend. I will miss those emails, and I am sure others will miss them too.Flowers .056

Jim’s legacy of friendship and passion for TRIZ will forever remain in our hearts and memories!

In memory of Zion Bar-El. 5 December 2019

From Zion's Family:Zion Bar el.515

“It is with a very heavy heart that we share the news that Zion passed away last night in his sleep due to natural causes.

For those who have been in his life for even a moment, you know that he went full steam ahead with every second of his life. Sleep was a waste of time, and his passion for his work and family were paramount. He always took pride in that.

He considered everyone he worked with at Ideation and Face Innovation and numerous associates like family, and that was always a major propelling force and inspiration for him.

May his memory be a blessing for all who knew him.”

With loving regards,

The Bar-El family

"The Altshuller Institute laments the loss of colleague and TRIZ Master, Volyuslav Mitrofanov. He was born on 21 February 1928.Self locking bike030
For more than 40 years, Volyuslav Mitrofanov was one of the “attraction centers” to all TRIZ specialists. He met TRIZ when he already had become the highly positioned well-known expert in semiconductors. He was so impressed by TRIZ that he sacrificed the rest of his life and his career for a new life goal.
Mr. Mitrofanov organized the Leningrad TRIZ scientific School, the largest in the USSR. His former students now comprise the majority of globally recognized best TRIZ experts. He was the moral and ideological center to many of us; he set a good example to many people how to behave and work. To his last days, he remained proactive: he wrote new books and articles, analyzed and improved TRIZ, he sorrowed seeing the current world events. Most important, he believed in us, those who he taught and knew, he believed in our intellect, our humanism, our capabilities and creativity.
Blessed memory.
