"For the third year in a row, Tulane University is offering a TRIZ course as part of the Graduate Engineering Curriculum. Every year, 10-15 students spanning 4 engineering disciplines learn the basics of TRIZ methods. Some will elect to sit for the certification exam to become TRIZ Associates. Graduates of the program typically become industry leaders in research, design, and manufacturing. As part of the course, students examine their past projects with the training they received and implement TRIZ conflict resolution, and compare their previous designs to the multitude of innovative solutions they could generate with the TRIZ framework." By Prof. Khaled Adjerid, Bioengineering Dept. Head

This year from that class, 5 students took and pass the official exam and have earned their Associate Certification from the Altshuller Institute. Their names are:

Adam Xilong Bao, Koios Nicolette Shepard-Davis, Gus Elliott Morrison, Kailee Davis Oswald, and Isabella Renee Posey. My personal congratulations to these fine students for their hard work and courage to take this exam and be recognized for their accomplishments.  - R. Langevin

If other universities would like to know more about installing a TRIZ course to help their students succeed in their field of endeavor, just let us know. The Institute is ready to help you achieve your goals. TRIZ is a foundational methodology for technology innovation and is useful to all who become familiar with the tools and philosophy.

Yet when tech CEOs do the same thing, people tend to perk up.
ICYMI: The 42-year-old billionaire Dario Amodei, who runs the AI firm Anthropic, told Axios this week that the technology he and other companies are building could wipe out half of all entry-level office jobs … sometime soon. Maybe in the next couple of years, he said.

The TRIZ method emphasizes the use of patent information to inspire early design stages. However, effectively leveraging this vast and complex patent knowledge for safer and more efficient product innovation is challenging. Recent advances in AI, specifically Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML), are improving the speed and effectiveness of extracting useful information from patents. Our framework introduces an integrated TRIZ-AI approach that combines AI-based tools, including NLP and ML, with TRIZ to enhance innovation in product development. This helps tackle uncertainties in fast-paced product development by employing a process involving functional decomposition, function abstraction strategies, searching for similar products in a patent library, screening for the best matching model, and utilizing TRIZ tools for finalizing the engineering design plan. Ultimately, our approach aims to bridge the gap between theoretical patent knowledge and its practical use in product development, enhancing innovation while adapting swiftly in uncertain environments.

Solving Inventive Problems by Primary School Students in a Digital Environment

Prof. Galina Terekhova, Kirill TerakhovProf Gelina 2024 10 30 141422

    Abstract:

We have designed a digital environment for developing the inventive abilities of primary school students through educational experiments. The content of the digital laboratory includes special didactic tools based on TRIZ models for organizing inventive experiments. The proposed method of organizing the educational environment allows the expansion of the children’s experimental activity in solving inventive problems, namely, to build the skills of correct formulation of hypotheses in experimental activity, to improve the quality of practical solutions while retaining the ability to show intellectual initiative; to develop the ability to identify experimentally reliable solutions to a problem; to form a desire to use scientific terminology, to conduct a constructive dialogue in the process of joint research activities; to formulate hypotheses and conclusions during the experiment.

Generative AI for Systematic Resource Modification in Creative Problem Solving

Tanasak Pheunghua, The Inventor Development, Thailand

    AbstractTANASAK 2024 10 27 093253

This paper investigates the use of generative AI for the systematic modification of resources as part of the broader idea-generation process. Using resource analysis and TRIZ-based problem-solving principles, the AI facilitates structured innovation by identifying, categorizing, and transforming various resource categories, including substance, field, time, space, information, and functional resources. The system supports diverse modification goals, such as resolving contradictions, achieving specific objectives, completing jobs to be done, or addressing other creative challenges. It begins by analyzing the existing system, defining the desired modification goal, and applying generative AI to suggest solutions based on appropriate TRIZ principles. The AI-driven modifications enhance resources by adapting their parameters or functions to meet new, optimized goals. This generative AI system accelerates the idea-generation process by providing innovative, practical solutions to real-world problems, improving efficiency and creativity. The integration of generative AI for resource modification offers significant potential across industries, fostering innovation in product development, conceptual ideation, and complex problem-solving.
