"Was Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamato a TRIZ practitioner?"Viesturs Tamuzs

Three main tasks of money are the transfer of value in time, transfer of value in space, and accounting of value. Neither modern money nor any previous monetary system has been able to successfully fulfill these three functions over a lengthy period. The main reason for that is inflation and the true cause of it - the greed of those who have the power to make money emissions. However, a powerful central institution is necessary to ensure public trust in money. In his efforts to create a fundamentally new monetary system, the creator of Bitcoin Satoshi Nakamato has faced a typical TRIZ conflict: a central authority is necessary for the monetary system, and at the same time centralization of the system is undesirable.

So far, efforts to improve the functioning of the monetary system have been in a search for new money managers that would be more honest and smarter than the previous ones, however, these attempts always have ended in failure due to the greed of the system administrators. Here again, we can see the contradiction: human intelligence is needed for the monetary system, while humans are undesirable in this system because they are driven by greed.

Like a TRIZ practitioner, Satoshi Nakamato has used two conflict resolution mechanisms. He has solved the contradiction of the monetary system centralization by dividing it into subsystems: instead of one central administrator, hundreds of thousands of administrative units (nodes) which are independent of each other perform management of the monetary system. To solve the contradiction of trust Satoshi proposes to introduce an anti-system – instead of the traditional system of trust he proposes a system of complete distrust, where all decisions and every action are checked, and the checking is done not by humans, but by mathematical algorithms.

"Enhancing TOP-TRIZ Problem Solving with AI"zinovy royzen

Abstract:

Zinovy Royzen, TRIZ Master

Attempts for integration of AI into problem-solving frameworks have been noticed in recent times. This paper is focused on the distinct advantages brought forth by GPT-4 in the domain of problem solving.

Firstly, no one problem solver is an expert in every subject matter. Often, the problem-solving process is halted to source crucial information. Here, GPT-4 emerges as a universal subject matter expert, producing impressive outcomes and significantly cutting down the problem-solving duration.

Secondly, it's important to underline that most problems can’t be solved in one step.

Through our research, we've recognized the significance of framing questions that pertain to individual steps. Mastering the art of querying in a manner optimized for AI becomes paramount in this context.

Notably, both these benefits of GPT-4 can be integrated into any problem-solving methodologies.

Lastly, our efforts in training GPT-4 with TOP-TRIZ have yielded astonishing results.  Some issues that dogged our clients for years and took hours to resolve using TOP-TRIZ were solved in a matter of minutes when approached with a GPT-4 trained on TOP-TRIZ.  Such advancements underscore the potential of using TOP-TRIZ with AI.

"Ideation AI Application for Complexity Management"

Abstract:

Presented by David C. Bonner, President/CEO, Ideation International, Inc.

and  Alla Zusman, Boris Zlotin, et al.

Many problems are complex today, which is very different from complicated, meaning there are many variables and non-linear relationships, and unpredictable outcomes, like a pandemic, climate change, poverty, mass obesity, etc.

Traditional tools typically utilized for addressing complicated problems have been proven inefficient in the case of complex situations, often resulting in unintended consequences of seemingly reasonable solutions or no plausible solutions at all.

Ideation Complexity Management tools, especially the AI-enabled Problem Formulator® (PF) module, are ideally suited to address complex situations because they allow us to map the problem and create greater clarity on the interaction and the relationships between the complex system parts.

Recently, various AI Chatbots have become available to help resolve complex situations and find solutions to difficult challenges. However, the usefulness of a Chatbot response strongly depends on the quality of the questions.

As a complex situation is often a combination of less complicated partial problems; the difficulties are in their number, numerous, often unclear interconnections, unknown patterns, etc., PF’s ability to clarify and “slice” a complex situation into a set of multiple perspectives and the use of traditional brainstorming or AI chatbots to find solutions to partial problems must be considered a critical advantage to find a satisfactory resolution.

Solutions obtained with the help of Ideation Complexity Management tools with the embedded AI Chatbot connectivity are at core, socially/culturally independent and hold resilience as the situation changes.

"Creative Person Development" (CPD)

AbstractIsak Bukhman 2017.925

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid. "

by  Albert Einstein

Historically, the first materials related to Creative Person Development (CPD) were created and published by Genrich Altshuller and Igor Vertkin about 30 years ago.

Altshuller and Vertkin analyzed many biographies of great and creative people. This research work was the creation of the Life Strategy of the Creative Person (LSCP). The main idea of LSCP was a game between the candidate for a” creative person” and environmental or external obstacles. This "game" describes nearly all possible moves of the "external environment" in order not to allow a creative person to gain the Great Aim and almost all possible "answers" of the creative person to win in this "fight." Each move was equipped with many examples, mostly from Soviet and Russian sources. All possible actions of the "external environment" and the creative person's possible "answers" are grouped into four main categories: opening, middle game, endgame, and post-endgame. Post-end games are possible in LSCP.

The author created a Creative Person Development (CPD) topic for his TRIZ training based on Jonathan Livingston Seagull's story by Richard Bach. It is a top-rated book available in many languages, and you can quickly go through Jonathan’s life milestones together with me.

CPD contains three parts (formation of the creative man, higher to heaven, perfection; you are a teacher) and 49 steps. Each step is equipped with the citation or free retelling from appropriate pages of a book, with comments, requirements to Creative Man, and Creative Man features.

“Creative Imagination Development” (CID)Isak Bukhman 2017.925

Abstract:

In his Essay on the Creative Imagination, Théodore-Armand Ribot, the famous French psychologist, shows that the peak of human creative imagination occurs between 14 and 16 years of age. Then the curve begins to drop. That was at the beginning of the 20th century. A hundred years after Ribot, the peak of creativity is much lower, and the peak age has shifted to between 10 and 12 years (Figure 1).

CID 2023 10 25 115348

Figure 1   Creativity dependent on age, without TRIZ education and with TRIZ education

It is clear why this shift is happening, and the fact that access to information has become widely available to people of all ages is a large factor. However, publicly available data gives us standard solutions for everyday situations and problems. Click on a button and get an answer without having to do much thinking, much less imagining.

To be sure, all modules of TRIZ more or less develop our creative imagination and lower our tendency toward Psychological Inertia. However, this is not enough for TRIZ specialist preparation. In the 70s, it became clear that a particular Creative Imagination Development (CID) course was needed.

Genrich Altshuller and Pesach Amnuel created the first CID course in the late 70s. From that time, the CID course became one of the most valuable parts of TRIZ, acting as a lubricant for creative thinking.

I started to use the CID course in my TRIZ training during the early 80s. Each day of training, we spent at least one hour on CID topics. We discussed creating fantastic ideas and situations, analyzed interesting science-fiction stories and novels, and made our own science-fiction stories. I found that TRIZ training went more slowly, and projects were not as successful if the CID course was not used.

But today, the old CID course is not a part of most TRIZ training.

We created a new CID course there and have used only TRIZ tools for fantastic situations and ideas creation.  It is the main difference between the presented CID and the CID course developed by Genrich Altshuller and Pesach Amnuel.

"TRIZ versus The Global Descent Darrell Mann 2023 10 21 110747Into AI-Driven Totalitarianism"

by Darrell Mann

"Totalitarianism in power invariably replaces all first-rate talents, regardless of their sympathies, with those crackpots and fools whose lack of intelligence and creativity is still the best guarantee of their loyalty.”          Hannah Arendt

Abstract:

There is little agreement between commentators about whether AI will be the making or the downfall of mankind. There is, however, something closer to consensus that whatever changes AI triggers will happen quickly, and that they will happen far more rapidly than our institutions will be able to handle effectively.

Few if any futurologists have the necessary tools to see more than a year into the future, particularly during this turbulent time in our history. This is largely because they do not understand the role of contradictions and especially conflicts between societal and market trends in our emergent future. The first part of the presentation describes a TRIZ-based trend conflict analysis aimed at providing a more accurate range of future scenarios built around the likely evolution of AI technologies and the conflicts they help solve, and the new ones they create. This analysis reveals four likely outcomes in the coming decade, three of which involve different forms of totalitarianism, and one – the least likely – sees mankind break through to a higher level of thinking, which we might think of as a ‘humanocracy’.

The second half of the paper speculates on the vital – ‘necessary’ – role of contradiction-focused TRIZ thinking in enabling the emergence of this fourth scenario. It focuses on the emerging critical contradictions – relating to a global over-production of ‘elites’ and ‘intellectuals’ – and how AI solutions equipped with TRIZ-based capabilities can help facilitate the resolution of these contradictions.

Biography: Darrell Mann

Over the last 25 years, Darrell has helped deliver over $6B in new value to clients across the world and has served as the spark behind a dozen spin-out companies. He is the author of over 1000 innovation-related papers and articles and a dozen TRIZ-related textbooks, the latest pair focusing on innovation in start-up enterprises and the future-proofing of societal institutions. Over the years, he has held Visiting Professorships at a range of different universities around the world. He is currently a Professor at the University of Buckingham in the UK.

Harnessing AI for effective problem solving and innovation

In this talk, we will discuss the importance of understanding customer needs for business success. We will introduce a creative thinking tool called Action Preventing Action (APA) and highlight its limitations. To address these limitations, we will unveil a groundbreaking process that leverages AI-assisted customer needs analysis, among other tools. We will showcase how the AI companion provides hints and support throughout the problem-solving processes, empowering individuals to unlock their full potential. While AI cannot solve problems or invent new ideas, it serves as a valuable assistant, enabling fruitful discussions and idea generation.

Empowering Inventive Problem SolvingPete Hanik 2023 09 05 132753 with Artificial Intelligence Systems

by Peter Hanik

Many naturally creative people can think abstractly about solutions to previous problems.  Then they combine the abstract solutions with resources in the system that contains the current problem to form an idea.  TRIZ is a structured problem-solving method that is analogous in many ways to the thinking of the naturally creative problem solver.  There are many variations on the original TRIZ method, but all of these rely on the fundamental concept of TRIZ, inventive principles, which are essentially abstract solutions used many times in the past on a wide variety of problems.  I have facilitated many problem-solving workshops using TRIZ with cross-functional teams of subject matter experts.  This presentation will explore the dynamics of facilitating such problem-solving workshops and discuss how AI could be leveraged to increase the productivity of TRIZ problem solving projects.  Reference will be made to a number of problem types including patent development and product offerings.

"Towards an ambitious and increasingly realistic research:Cavallucci.986

the intelligent machine as an invention assistant"

Abstract:

The tsunami of information and publicity surrounding ChatGPT, and its competitors has been shaking the TRIZ planet for just under a year. Beyond the opportunism of simply riding the wave, some are inventing themselves as prompt engineers for TRIZ, which will very soon find its limits. It's time for the TRIZ world to ask itself whether research is still possible outside the one carried out by OpenAI or companies with the same power. Are we (TRIZ professionals) now all reduced to merely designing sequences of queued prompts to target an expected ideal result or are new scientific and technical challenges still open to the TRIZ world for its future? In this talk, we'll take you on a journey of research, where we won't be talking about ChatGPT (at last!), but about other AI tools that have been proven to be very useful in tackling an intelligent form of invention assistance.
