Dialectic Materialism as the base of Laws of System Evolution and Development

Abstract

In this presentation, we will explore the main ideas of the Laws of new system creation, existing system evolution and development (Altshuller, 1984; Bukhman, 2012), and their relationship with some laws and categories of philosophy based on Dialectical Materialism. We will not discuss natural systems; we will only discuss the development and evolution of artificially created (by humans) systems.

As designers of artificially created systems, we can control their development and evolution by applying the Laws of system evolution and development.

TRIZ recognizes the Laws of system evolution and development as rules for systems' existence, operation, and change. These laws are the primary part of TRIZ and, as such, are the basis for the development of all other TRIZ elements.

The “division of labor” between the Laws and the analytical tools of TRIZ (oriented for problem-solving) is straightforward and clear. Laws help create a more developed and ideal image of the next generation of a system or process. However, we cannot produce an “image.”  It must be described with the actual concepts of design. The analytical tools of TRIZ (ARIZ-85C, the System of Standard Solutions, Inventive and Separation Principles, and the Scientific Knowledge Database) perform this job. Thus, the Laws of System Evolution and development create an image, and the analytical elements of TRIZ fill out that image with real design solutions.

In our presentation, we will use the following TRIZ Laws:

  1. The law of system completeness.
  2. The law of shortening the path of energy flow through a system.
  3. The law of synchronization of the parameters of a system.
  4. The law of the increasing degree of Ideality.
  5. The law of non-uniform evolution of subsystems (system components) creates system contradictions.
  6. The law of transitioning to a super-system.
  7. The law of transitioning to the micro level.
  8. The law of increasing controllability/flexibility of a system (law of dynamism).

Some laws and categories of philosophy based on Dialectical Materialism:

  1. The law of the passage of quantitative changes into qualitative changes and vice versa/The law of the transformation of quantity into quality and vice versa
  2. The law of unity and conflict of opposites/The law of the interpenetration of opposites
  3. The law of dialectical synthesis /The law of the negation of the negation
  4. The law of the dialectical contradiction
  5. The relation of cause and effect / Causation and the Law
  6. Development as a universal regularity

Isak Bukhman is TRIZ Master, President, and Consultant of TRIZ Solutions LLC (the USA), President of Altshuller Institute for TRIZ Studies, senior consultant of Chongqing Innovation Method Society, honorary director of Chinese National Engineering Research Center for Technological Innovation Methods and Tools, honorary member of Leibniz Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies (LIFIS)

As their chief methodologist, Isak spent ten years at Invention Machine Corporation (IMC). This experience helped him develop unique skills in using TRIZ combined with Goldfire software to create new systems, develop existing systems, and solve problems. He now works as an independent consultant and owns TRIZ Solutions, LLC.

TRIZ Solutions LLC is a consulting company that offers a complete array of technology-for-innovation products and services to companies in any industry. It uses a training system, project facilitation, consultant preparation, and support in creating Centers of Innovation. TRIZ Solutions LLC helps realize the privilege and obligation of each member of our society to be creative and live a successful and happy life.

During recent years, Isak has been active delivering TRIZ training workshops and guiding the development of more than 100 innovation projects for more than 40 leading global Corporations, Institutes, and Universities including American Axle & Manufacturing (USA), BYD (P. R. of China), Bobcat (USA), Chery Automobile (P. R. of China), Delphi (USA), Eaton (USA), Hendrickson (USA), Ingersoll Rand (USA), Johnson Controls (USA), Alcon (USA), Biomerieux (USA), DePuyOrthopaedics (Germany), Medtronic (USA), Steris (USA), Baker Hughes (USA), Chemtura (USA), Masco-Behr (USA), Shell (USA, UK), Stress Engineering Services (USA), A.O. Isak’s work has also included the delivery of many essential and advanced training seminars (some together with Genrich Altshuller), the education and training of thousands of managers, engineers, and researchers in TRIZ/Value Methodology, and—closest to his heart—seven years of child and adolescent creativity (TRIZ) education in his native Latvia. It was a long way from a team of 12-year-old students to a specialized TRIZ K11 elementary-middle-high school of Lomonosov in Riga.
